As you may know, I just got back from 2 weeks away in China.

The trip throughout China (starting in Hong Kong, then Guilin, Xi-an, Beijing, Shanghai and back in Hong Kong) was so wonderful and inspiring that there will DEFINITELY be some Chinese miniatures in progress soon...

So - the online Pixie Dust Miniatures Etsy shop is back online and business has been resumed as usual.

My Workspace - Designing the new Toads

What's small, warty and takes up faaaaaar too much of my time...?!!

You may have noticed that I haven't blogged for ages... I explain why - just scroll down to the 'Shop Announcement' below.

In the meantime, here are some newly designed warty cane toads I have been making in green and brown. I started by doing a quick watercolour painting as a plan and then softened lots of clay and used the painting as a rough guide. These new toads have cute faces and adorable expressions. Each one is handmade by myself to a high standard and they are 15% smaller than my 'Fairytale Toads'.

I'll make these new little toads available at my Pixie Dust Miniatures Etsy shop soon, and I'll offer the same toad discount (info on the toad discount here) - this discount expires at the end of this month (Feb 2014).

As many of you know, I work in the film industry in Hollywood and my company 'Tall Tales Productions' is making its first short film which is made using miniature scale sets and hand-sculpted miniature characters - all of this arty side is being done by myself. So, lately I have had to put a lot more time into this and I am afraid that for most of this year Pixie Dust Miniatures (and my other brand) will have to take a back seat...
I will still list new minis every so often and your orders will still be sent out with speed.. and you can expect good customer service if you have any questions. However, I wont be blogging quite as much or working on as many new ranges or taking many custom requests. (If you have a very urgent custom request then go ahead and email me here and I'll see what I can do!) :)

A Wizardly New Year

Happy New Year all my fabulous followers of miniature magic!!

It's 2014 and there's a lot of exciting things to come this year. Look out for my first Pixie Dust Miniatures book which will be out this spring.
It features dozens and dozens of full colour miniature scene photographs, insights into my miniature creations including the behind the scenes photography, a couple of tutorials (with my most secret techniques revealed) and running commentary about the life of me, Caroline - the miniaturist behind Pixie Dust Miniatures.

Besides the book, I am starting the year with a new Wizard Range - including these chamber candles. They're absolutely tiny (1:12 scale) and my favourite candles to date.

I'll also spend much of this year working on the film 'Myrtle the Witch' (a short film which is shot entirely on miniature scale sets and using hand-sculpted miniature characters) - find out more about this and stay connected at the Tall Tales Productions Facebook page here.

Ch-ch-ch-Changes....!

Logging onto my Etsy shop today I realised there are yet more changes to the site again and I have had that David Bowie song 'Changes' in my head ever since. ;)

So, not long ago Etsy allowed sellers the chance to create an 'About' page for their shops so that they could tell their shop's story and talk about how they make their products and so forth. I love this new tool and created an About Page for Pixie Dust Miniatures which you may have seen here, (or see preview below).

Today I see that they have changed their 'Feedback' section and now instead of three grades of feedback (positive, neutral, negative) they have a 5 star rating. Okay, well I am not sure this change is a benefit, but I will wait and see if I get anything less than 5 stars (and be totally distressed if I do!) See how the Five Star Review section looks (image left).

Whilst we're talking about Etsy, some of you may have noticed I have added very little to my shop since the spooky cookbooks... but I will have a small Limited Edition Halloween range this year, so look out for that. I wont be making 10 of every item and usual - maybe just 1 or 2 of each as I have so little time these days.

Potions, Tonics, Ointments and Poisons...

I hope people have great little spellrooms / witch towers / apothecaries.... because you can now have quite well-stocked shelves....!

I have just finished listing 11 kinds of potions at my online Pixie Dust Miniatures shop.

From Love Ointment, Envy Antidote, Bottled Fame and Eternity Potion..... you'll find it all in the new Potions Range here at Pixie Dust!

Each bottle is carefully made by me using a glass base, mixed media and finished with a brush of gold / bronze of silver-tone dust. They are in one inch scale, but look carefully at the Potion Chart below and you'll see that some are significantly smaller than others and could work in a half inch (1:24) scale scene.

As an introductory offer, all potions are 10% off for today only. This offer expires at this time (noon PST) tomorrow. Click to this section of my shop, click to buy potions and then enter the code: POTION before you pay and 10% will be deducted from your potions (but not shipping).

The Pixie has Landed

Hello everyone,
Yes I know... it's been absolutely ages since you heard from me and my online Pixie Dust Miniatures shop remains closed at this time... sorry!

As you probably know, I had to close this shop (and other shop) for a few weeks whilst I had the messy move from NZ to UK to US with plenty of Embassy meetings, packing, flying and landing going on around this time. Well... the Pixie has landed! 

So, please note that Pixie Dust Miniatures is back in Los Angeles, California and will be re-opening in just a few more days (keep your eye on this blog, or the shop or on the Facebook page so you know when) and I'll be launching some fun new miniature magic ranges, furniture, a free-to-enter competition and a new coupon to apologize for my absence!

Tutorials and more for 2013!

Wondering what's in store for Pixie Dust Miniatures in 2013....?! I'll tell you. :)

First of all, I must apologise for my absence for a few weeks of this year thus far. I've been busily preparing for my move back to the US and also had some exciting work in miniatures at a film company... for an insight into my miniature work outside of Pixie Dust Miniatures see my professional blog here.

Now, as for 2013 - I'll be moving back to Los Angeles in about 10 days time (during which I am afraid my online Pixie Dust Miniatures shop will remain closed)... then I will re-open, all miniatures will ship from LA and I will soon introduce my new ranges. Yay!

Expect to see a magical Valentines range as well as fantastical new unicorn horns, more bottled magic, cauldrons, books, a Pixie Dust Miniatures FURNITURE RANGE and a whole lot more in store which I'll be a bit secretive about for now! Happy New Year......! Yes I know, it's already 11th January 2013 and have only just found the time to wish you all a Happy New Year but I've been a busy bumble bee as of late! Hope you all enjoyed the countdown and have set off on the right foot.

Christmas Preview and Shop Announcement

I'm currently in New Zealand and it's technically the end of their spring / start of summer, so it doesn't exactly feel like Christmas is coming any time soon for me!

Above is a glimpse at some of my new Christmas Range for 2012. This is my gingerbread candy village and as you might have guessed there will be magical and whimsical gingerbread houses available in all shapes and sizes. Everything (including all cane candy) is made by me.
