Forgotten Magic

Last year, whilst living in Middle Earth (aka New Zealand), I created all sorts of spooky items for Halloween. However, it came to my attention today that some of these little magical miniatures were never showcased here on this blog!

I realised the error when doing some work for my other brand. I stumbled on photos in the archive which were never shown, so today I fixed the mistake (blogging about it here). It got me wondering if I'd ever forgotten to show something here on Pixie Dust Miniatures, and to my horror -I had!

So, today's the day to upload images of forgotten magic - miniatures from Halloween of last year (2012) - never before seen....!

Here we have... Ghost Bottles, Beetle Treacle and Gnome Pots. All three essential magics for the witch's kitchen or spellroom can be found at my online Pixie Dust Miniature Etsy store.

Christmas Preview and Shop Announcement

I'm currently in New Zealand and it's technically the end of their spring / start of summer, so it doesn't exactly feel like Christmas is coming any time soon for me!

Above is a glimpse at some of my new Christmas Range for 2012. This is my gingerbread candy village and as you might have guessed there will be magical and whimsical gingerbread houses available in all shapes and sizes. Everything (including all cane candy) is made by me.

My Workspace... making a Gingerbread Candy Village

I'm working my sweatshop of elves hard this festive season. They're frantically creating a unique and magical village of gingerbread houses, with frosting rooftops, gumdrop tiles and candy trees for Christmas 2012. It's going to be a fun display when it's finished!

A Posse of Possums

Do you remember when I mentioned an unusual commission for two one inch scale possums toasting marshmallows on sticks for a client's campfire diorama? I blogged about making them here just a couple of weeks back. Thought you might like to see the finished possums just before I glued their marshmallow sticks to their little paws.

It's November now and I'm starting to think about Christmas.....! There's a lot more Christmasiness happening at my other blog, but there'll definitely be some Christmas themed miniatures coming here soon also, so stay tuned!

On another note, I am currently still in Wellington New Zealand, and I leave in just under 2 weeks to fly back to the UK and then in the first week of Dec I'll fly back to the US. So my shops will have to close here and there (I'll give notice at the time). If there's anything you had your eye on that you definitely want in time for Christmas then you might want to make your purchases from my online Pixie Dust Miniatures shop before I leave NZ just to be safe. I don't want to see anyone disappointed! :)

My Workspace - Making Spider Cake

Have a look and see what I've been up to today, among other things. With Halloween soon upon us I thought it was high time for high tea.... and more creepy cake. This cake is chocolate sponge decorated with a nice ripe spider.

Haircut! ...and Competition News

In my news... (since I have nothing creative to share with you today), I got a haircut in Wellington, New Zealand finally! It had been 8 months or so since my last cut because I always forget it needs it until at some point I wake up, look in the mirror and realise I resemble Cousin It. I measured the length of my hair (yeah, my morning really was that slow) and it came out at 2 feet. Yikes. So I had a cut and she took off 5 inches. Brilliant. She also straightened it but that'll only last until I next wash it, and then it's back to 'bird's nest hair Caroline'.  ;)

My Workspace - Batty Batty Batty

Do you remember that song in Sesame Street'... the 'Song of the Count'? The chorus consisted of little fluffy glittery bats singing "batty, batty, batty...." Loved that! Had it stuck in my head as I made all these bats.
I actually made these bats over a fortnight ago but I wasn't going to share them until I'd finished the bat tower they go with (well the bat tower's for the photographs, but the bats will be sold individually as part of my Halloween 2012 Range). So it's coming fairly soon... I'm sharing so much of my workspace lately, why not a few more works-in-process photos? Note that these bats are in two sizes - some really quite tiny. All are fluffy and have tiny detailed faces. Better photos coming soon of course and then they'll be available in my shop.

Note that their little legs look too long in some photos as they hadn't been trimmed down yet! Some remain long so that they can more easily be attached to furniture / beams and hang upside down.

My Workspace - Pumpkin Tonic Prep Boards

Don't get bored of hearing me blog about prep boards just yet.... there's actually quite a few more to come!

These are pictures I took throughout today of my workspace and you can see me assembling tiny little carved wooden prep boards with yellow silk, pumpkins and pumpkin tonic made by witches. ;)

The artwork on the scrolls and labels is my own as usual, and the glass jelly jars are hand-blown (I commissioned another artist to make the glass for me) and quite tiny.

I'll start having some of these new items available at my online Pixie Dust Miniatures store fairly soon... just let me finish them off and photograph them properly (these photos are dreadful!)
