Magical Unicorn Horns

I stopped selling unicorn horns back in early 2012 because: a) - I ran out of stock, and b) - people wrote and complained that it was hurtful to them as it suggested violence towards animals. Since I feel I've cleared that matter up and fans are now happy with me selling unicorn horns again... I've just made them available again at my online Pixie Dust Miniatures shop!

Handmade by myself in one inch scale with great attention to detail, you can find these horns for sale here.

And if you'd like to read a little more about unicorns and the project they were for, don't forget to follow my 'Caroline blog' or better yet, the Facebook page here!

Here are some magical fairy tale photos to get you inspired when creating your own magical miniature setting. The witch that lives here had gone foraging on a warm summer morning, bringing back jars of moss, oak leaves, toadstools from fairy rings and unicorn horns which she found in the woods... see below...

My Workspace - Potion Room

Hi everyone,

What a crazy day in LA! It's pouring with rain - big, fat, heavy rain, whilst it's sunny and pretty in England. My mum just had my sister and her husband and baby over for lunch and they ate outside in the warm sun. Whereas I am listening to the loud rain attacking my LA apartment and clinging to my cup of hot tea! It's good though... it's good when it rains here on occasion.

Anyway, I'm making a potion room and wanted to share a few photos of the process of the back paneled walls. See me here adding gold paint details over the acrylic paint. It's made using card-stock mostly. I took a snap of some of the floor as well. Another swirly tiled floor as I have recently done before but this one is painted pale like sandstone.

If you're interested in knowing more about slightly larger pieces, then please take a look at my professional filmy blog here and stop by the Facebook page as well. I'm building miniature rows of witchy houses, an enchanted forest and all sorts. Watch my progress and then eventually watch the film they all belong to!

My Workspace - the Thatched Cottage

Just to keep you all updated, here are some photos I took today of my thatched cottage. You can see the photos I showed before (the very first stage of the cottage) here.
Now you will see that clay, wood and plaster have been added. I've probably only put in another 3 or 4 hours since those first photos, but I plan on taking lots of photos of the process so you can get ideas and be inspired to create your own things. As usual feel free to stop by the Facebook page and comment / ask questions about materials and techniques. You can comment on this blog as well of course and I'll answer questions.

In case you can't tell, I am going for a whimsical almost (but not quite) Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs style fairytale cottage rather than a realistic representation of a Tudor house.

More to see soon, don't forget to follow the blog and stop by!

My Workspace - Potions and an old Cottage

Another glimpse into the maker space of my magical miniature world...

Since I moved into my new apartment I have been busily making all sorts of fantastical items and running through commissions. However, I haven't had my proper studio lights unpacked and ready for use so have been unable to take proper photos of my new ranges. Still, I can take these snaps of my works in progress and always happy to share them here on my blog and on the Facebook page since so many people ask to see them. :)

Here you'll see my new potion bottles - my Elixirs of Life in the making.

Scroll past these for photos of a thatched cottage also in progress. Don't forget to stop by and check out this blog over the next few weeks so you can see updates on my projects and the finished cottage.
And pop by the online Pixie Dust Miniatures store soon to find Elixir of Life potion bottles for sale and also those dragon egg crates (previously blogged about here).

Let me tell you a Tale...

Fans and customers often ask me what I do when I am not making miniatures for Pixie Dust Miniatures to sell to collectors.

Well I thought it might make a good post topic!

When I'm not making minis here or working as a VFX artist, I work at a small production company (which I actually founded) called Tall Tales Productions. We make miniature model sets and character sculpts for other production companies and some private collectors also.

We're currently working on our own short film called 'Myrtle the Witch' which is being made using several miniature sets and hand-sculpted characters made by us to our own designs. We're filming it here in Los Angeles using green screens and adding visual effects. It will be available in 3D also.

So, if you're interested in seeing miniatures in motion and miniature filmmaking, then follow the Tall Tales blog or find us on Facebook and stay connected! The main website is here.
