Witchy Toads in the Works

Do you remember those Warty Cane Toads I made for Halloween 2010, inspired by the chorus of warty cane toads that sang in the Hogwarts choir in 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'? Well, there are a couple still left at my online store, but I am thinking of discontinuing them in favour of my new designs...

This is a sneak peek at my newly created Witchy Cane Toads which come in all sorts of spooky colours. They take a heck of a lot longer to make and have so much detail and adorable little faces. Probably my favourite Pixie Dust Miniatures items to date. They took days to make and are 1:12 (one inch) scale.

Here are some pictures of my little colourful critters... as seen in the short film - Myrtle the Witch, - some will be made available at my online shop at a later date also.

And if you scroll past these new witchy toads, you'll see my original warty cane toad I made in Los Angeles. I remember when I first made one of these toads. I was going for realism, and to test how real my first one looked I put it on the edge of my bath and called my boyfriend over to my apartment. I said there seemed to be a toad or frog in my shower. He took a look, believed it and got a glass to put the little fellow in. It wasn't until he got particularly close and it wasn't moving that he knew something was up. Plus I couldn't stop laughing!

My Workspace... Toad Time!

Yep, it's been time for toads lately... been making quite a few today to complete a commission. Will try to finish them tomorrow so I can start on another commission as I have about 12 things on the list right now. All the buses come at once, right?!

Thought I'd share some unfinished toads since I know many of you like to see things in process. :) I'll share completed photos when they're finished.

Back but beneath the Blankets

Been taking a mini break from miniatures lately as most of you will know (and my online shop has been closed for most of April), so I just wanted to let everyone know that my shop is back online.

Wear some Irish * Magic *

The tiny, detailed little Leprechaun shoes on these rings are one inch scale (because unlike most fairies which you could fit on the palm of your hand, leprechauns can be the size of cats, with large feet like hobbits, supposedly!) So they fit the platform of these lovely bronze coloured (surgical steel) adjustable rings very well.

The Leprechaun Shoe Earrings are a different design - being quite sparkly and glam. The insides of the shoes are glittered and the outsides shimmer in all sorts of shades of green.

My Workspace... Making Shoes...

St Patrick's Day is this weekend! It's the 17th of March. Not just a day for wearing green, eating Irish cuisine and drinking heavily... it's also meant to commemorate Saint Patrick (387-461 AD) and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. ;)

Well, here's a glimpse into my workspace today. It's all about little leprechaun shoes... tiny little shoes (handmade by myself in one inch scale) which I am making into jewelry in the form of earrings and rings, ready for St Patrick's Day. Ready, though a tad late since it's in a few days! Oh well, they'll be cute to wear anytime of year. :)

Well with soooo many requests for loose slugs & snails, I have finally decided to list a LIMITED RUN of them. So, a quick description... these are one inch scale handmade (without the use of molds) garden snails. Scroll through the images below and you will see a brown garden snail, white snail and a zebra snail. Then we have 2 kinds of MICRO snail. These are even smaller (almost half the size) which means they work in a one inch scale and a half inch scale miniature scene. I have micro snails in yellow and zebra.

Happy Birthday... to me!

"It's my party and I'll eat garden pests if I want to...."

Just celebrated my birthday on the 23rd February which is why my online shop was closed for a week. It was a biggy - just turned 30!!! Incidentally, take a look at my other birthday cake on my other blog here. :)
I had an amazing time in Cancun, Mexico, and just got back today. Wow... hours and hours of traveling but so, so worth it. It was so hot, I swam with sea turtles, snorkeled with colourful tropical fish in the Caribbean Sea, saw ancient Mayan temples, and stayed at the Ritz-Carlton (the hotel made a mistake and thus upgraded us from the Marriott hotel!! Lucky us).

So, I hope everyone else has had a good week. My shop is now back online and business has resumed as usual. :)
