Toads and Snails in Print

Hello everyone!
Gosh, what a lot of travelling I have done this year! I have neglected Pixie Dust Miniatures over the past couple of months as I was away in China and then France. But, I'm back, orders are rolling in, the online Pixie Dust Miniatures shop is open and you're welcome to email me to make any request you like.

Today I was asked to make a pink warty cane toad for someone and I'm delighted to do this as I've never done it before. I'll show photos of my workspace when I get going on it.

Don't forget that my snails and toads are all available for sale at my online Pixie Dust Miniatures Etsy shop here.

That brings me to today's topic.... toads and snails in print! I am delighted to have a mention and some photos in 'The Dolls House Magazine' this month (June issue) and I have put the little feature all about gardening below. You can find a copy of this great UK magazine here.

My Workspace... Snail Cupcakes

Another unique little Pixcie Dust Miniatures signature item is the snail cupcake!

Remember when snail cupcakes first appeared on this blog, back in 2011? I was trying to imagine what a witch might want to place on top of a nicely frosted cupcake, aside from a cherry. A nice little slimy garden snail seemed fitting.

As you know, I like to re-invent old designs, making them fresh and new and refining the detail. So here's a glimpse into my workspace as I make new snail cupcakes. I don't use bought cupcake molds, but instead sculpt by own bases and 'muffin tops'.

Scroll past these photos to see my original design and you can compare them. Maybe let me know which one you prefer?!

And if you're wondering what all these new creepy witchy foods are for... click over to my filmmaking Facebook page where you will start to see more of the miniature film sets, miniature film characters etc that these little mini foods will be joining. They are for the film 'Myrtle the Witch'. If it interests you then don't forget to 'like' the page to get the updates. :)

NEW Tiger Snail

Good grief - I just checked messages sent directly to me at my Pixie Dust Miniatures Etsy shop and gather people are concerned that I've fallen off the edge of the world / been swallowed up by a giant sea monster. Nope - I'm here! Sorry for seemingly disappearing throughout most of January. I have been busily working on a giant commission for a customer in Paris and will blog about that in a day or two. (Or stay ahead of what I get up to outside Pixie Dust Miniatures by following me here on Facebook).

Anyway - fun news - I have a NEW special miniature snail for you. This is a 'tiger snail' and you can see him below perched on the tip of my finger, and variations of him baked onto cupcakes below as well. Available now as a Limited Edition at my Pixie Dust Miniatures SHOP here... ;)

Slugs and Snails

Well with soooo many requests for loose slugs & snails, I have finally decided to list a LIMITED RUN of them. I usually reserve them for fairs only, but if you haven't found my stand at a miniature fair yet and are keen to buy a miniature snail (or slug) from Pixie Dust Miniatures, then I suggest you visit my online store now, whilst these limited edition slimy characters are available!

So, a quick description... these are one inch scale handmade (without the use of molds) garden snails. Scroll through the images below and you will see a brown garden snail, white snail and a zebra snail. Then we have 2 kinds of MICRO snail. These are even smaller (almost half the size) which means they work in a one inch scale and a half inch scale miniature scene. I have micro snails in yellow and zebra.

All artisan handmade by myself!

Happy Birthday... to me!

"It's my party and I'll eat garden pests if I want to...."

Just celebrated my birthday on the 23rd February which is why my online shop was closed for a week. It was a biggy - just turned 30!!! Incidentally, take a look at my other birthday cake on my other blog here. :)
I had an amazing time in Cancun, Mexico, and just got back today. Wow... hours and hours of traveling but so, so worth it. It was so hot, I swam with sea turtles, snorkeled with colourful tropical fish in the Caribbean Sea, saw ancient Mayan temples, and stayed at the Ritz-Carlton (the hotel made a mistake and thus upgraded us from the Marriott hotel!! Lucky us).

So, I hope everyone else has had a good week. My shop is now back online and business has resumed as usual. :)

This is my creepy cake complete with slimy snail and witchy candles...

And this is me enjoying the heat the day we arrived at the hotel, on my balcony. :)

I want to share with you these fabulous Snail Cupcake Prep Boards. The wonderfully warped wooden boards include a black cake stand with 3 chocolate cupcakes topped off with green frosting and fresh garden snails. There's another cupcake waiting to be decorated with a snail, a cookbook (my design front cover) called 'Baking with Snails' and has one little loose snail making his way across it. A magical and truly unique one inch scale miniature.
