A Scary Tutorial Featured!

I love, love, love seeing my work in the magazine 'Dolls House & Miniature Scene'. Especially when I am on the front cover as well! I feel very honoured.
This is a great UK magazine, but you can order it wherever in the world you live and it's also available as a digital download.

My scary tutorial has a Fall / autumn theme... it's a spooky pumpkin scarecrow, but if you read the tutorial, you'll see that it can be adapted for a Guy Fawkes scene as well.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to;

- make a scarecrow (including his clothing and pumpkin head)
- make carved jack o' lanterns
- make fluffy black crows.


The instructions are for a 1:12 scale model and for an intermediate clay crafter.

A Scary Workspace!

I know, I know... I don't blog here enough at all! I update my 'Caroline blog' and its corresponding Facebook page more frequently these days. And of course, there's always my blog and about my range of miniature food here.

What have I been up to lately? Aside from making a miniature birthday with the tiniest candles ever, for a an artist friend at Dreamworks (read all about it and see photos here), I have been creating a scene for one of my favourite miniature magazines ever - Dolls House and Miniature Scene Magazine. Toads and Snails in Print

Hello everyone!
Gosh, what a lot of travelling I have done this year! I have neglected Pixie Dust Miniatures over the past couple of months as I was away in China and then France. But, I'm back, orders are rolling in, the online Pixie Dust Miniatures shop is open and you're welcome to email me to make any request you like.

Today I was asked to make a pink warty cane toad for someone and I'm delighted to do this as I've never done it before. I'll show photos of my workspace when I get going on it.

That brings me to today's topic.... toads and snails in print! I am delighted to have a mention and some photos in 'The Dolls House Magazine' this month (June issue) and I have put the little feature all about gardening below. You can find a copy of this great UK magazine here.

The Trendy Witch's Kitchen!

Do you remember when I wrote about the retro kitchen for the modern witch that I was building?!

Behind the kitchen
As many of you know, I work as a miniature maker in Hollywood, creating miniature scale set pieces for film, TV, commercials as well as creating one of a kind miniatures for collectors. Well on my own time I am slowly and quietly working on a short film which I wrote, called 'Myrtle the Witch'. The sets are massively fun to design and create - her house for instance is built as a roundhouse in the depths of a forest with trees interwoven amongst her Aga and welsh dressers. It's a fairytale construction that I just love to be part of.

Having spent a lot of time working towards Myrtle and her witchy world, I felt like a change and was all too willing when I was asked to build a 'modern' clean and bright kitchen with a fantasy twist. So I created this kitchen which has design elements from the 40s, but is also fairly modern and certainly unconventionally 'witchy'.

Russian Magazine Feature!

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween! I haven't been on here much in the past few weeks as I have been vacationing abroad with my family (UK and Canary Isles). 
Hope you enjoyed the Halloween items I listed this year including the new Tutorial for a 'Spooky Pumpkin Fireplace' which will continue to be available in store all year round.

I flew back into LA 3 days ago and was ever so excited to see that I had been featured in a Russian magazine called 'The Art of Miniatures'! It is for November 2013 and has been out since Oct. I am 1/8 Russian so it meant a lot to me. My other miniature brand was featured in a different Russian miniature magazine and you can read about that here.

I am sure that most of you are familiar with this magazine, but for those who perhaps are not, click on the links below and discover it today...

'Dolls House & Miniature Scene' is a monthly magazine published in the UK and an excellent resource for miniature hobbyists, serious collectors and professional miniaturists. Each issue has projects, reports on fairs, clubs and miniature news from around the world and great articles about all kinds of miniature artisans. I love diving into their articles and finding all sorts of inspiration there.

American Miniaturist Feature

I recently received my copy of American Miniaturist from Dec of last year (2012) with a little two page feature on my Pixie Dust Miniatures magical scene in Santa's workshop. They also included some photos from my other brand (blog here).
