Haircut! ...and Competition News

If you haven't entered, then take a couple of minutes to have a go at winning a unique Pixie Dust Miniatures item. Just tell a friend about this site - they don't have to be into miniatures at all, in fact it's in some ways preferable if they're not! - Let's spread the word about all things tiny to people of all walks of life. ;)
For details on how to enter, click here.....
In my news... (since I have nothing creative to share with you today), I got a haircut in Wellington, New Zealand finally! It had been 8 months or so since my last cut because I always forget it needs it until at some point I wake up, look in the mirror and realise I resemble Cousin It. I measured the length of my hair (yeah, my morning really was that slow) and it came out at 2 feet. Yikes. So I had a cut and she took off 5 inches. Brilliant. She also straightened it but that'll only last until I next wash it, and then it's back to 'bird's nest hair Caroline'. ;)
Oh, and stay tuned for the live* competition draw... being broadcast all the way from New Zealand!
* it's not actually live.... i tape it and upload it to YouTube, but hey.
My hair before the cut.... and above image shows it today - yay!

My Workspace - Batty Batty Batty
I actually made these bats over a fortnight ago but I wasn't going to share them until I'd finished the bat tower they go with (well the bat tower's for the photographs, but the bats will be sold individually as part of my Halloween 2012 Range). So it's coming fairly soon... I'm sharing so much of my workspace lately, why not a few more works-in-process photos? Note that these bats are in two sizes - some really quite tiny. All are fluffy and have tiny detailed faces. Better photos coming soon of course and then they'll be available in my shop.
Note that their little legs look too long in some photos as they hadn't been trimmed down yet! Some remain long so that they can more easily be attached to furniture / beams and hang upside down.
And don't forget - you have only 5 days left to enter the Pixie Dust Miniatures 'Tell a Friend COMPETITION'! Take a few minutes to enter and you could win quite a unique and special miniature.... Enter here.

My Workspace - Pumpkin Tonic Prep Boards
Don't get bored of hearing me blog about prep boards just yet.... there's actually quite a few more to come!
These are pictures I took throughout today of my workspace and you can see me assembling tiny little carved wooden prep boards with yellow silk, pumpkins and pumpkin tonic made by witches. ;)
The artwork on the scrolls and labels is my own as usual, and the glass jelly jars are hand-blown (I commissioned another artist to make the glass for me) and quite tiny.
I'll start having some of these new items available at my online Pixie Dust Miniatures store fairly soon... just let me finish them off and photograph them properly (these photos are dreadful!)
If you're interested in whimsical little one inch scale prep boards then have a gander at my other blog too.... (here) these ones are not magical but they're cute and unique. :)
And don't forget - you have only 6 days left to enter the Pixie Dust Miniatures 'Tell a Friend COMPETITION'! Take a few minutes to enter and you could win quite a unique and special miniature.... Enter here.

No, I think not!
Imagine my horror when browsing Etsy I came across a very familiar photo - no wait - my photo being used to advertise someone else's product!
My tea break from 'making things' took a little downturn when I found that a fellow Etsy seller had pulled one of my copyrighted images from the internet, cropped out my company logo (yet somehow stupidly left the copyright notice at the bottom right hand side with my name on it) and uploaded it to her own shop to sell her 'poison pie wax candles', Fortunately she's not using it to sell miniature pies, but nonetheless that picture is coming down. I've sent her an email to let her know that - nope, can't do that.
Sheesh! Some people are so funny.
So... for your own amusement, see screengrab of someone'else's shop with my photograph above, and then detail showing my ignored copyright notice below.
Also see my original poison pie prep board designs (which is the product in question) and note that I have a newer design coming soon - blogged about yesterday here.
On a happier note, the weather in Wellington, New Zealand is wetter than a mermaid's brassiere. Take a look at the snaps I just had to take... there's a compare and contrast of my balcony the day I moved in vs now. And it's meant to be spring - the equivalent of March here.... what's going on?! Last image of Wellington was not taken by me, but pulled down from a news site. You see that's okay because I'm not using this person's photograph to sell product. ;)
Sunny day on my balcony in July (winter).....................Simply dreadful weather on my balcony today..!

My Workspace - Bake Off!
I've spent the entire day baking... with a little drop of poison.
And yeah, I've had Tom Waits in my head all day. ;)
Since I'm sharing a lot of my works in progress lately (by popular request), here's my workspace throughout today as I made NEWLY DESIGNED poison pies (these ones are 10% smaller than my last ones and the design is a tad refined), and I've been making new prep boards which are different to the last ones.
These will be part of a new range of spooky witchy baking in miniature. Stay tuned for more and watch out as I'll blog about these pies again very soon and let you know when they're available at my online Pixie Dust Miniatures store.

My Workspace - Magic Mushrooms...
It's about time I made toadstools again since it's been almost two years since I had them available in store!
I've spent the past 2 days (working 10 hours a day) making quite a new range. Here's a little glimpse into my creative space - thought you might enjoy seeing them as works in progress!
I'll start listing them very soon at my online Pixie Dust Miniatures shop. :) x

My Workspace - Taking Magic by the Horns
Have another glimpse inside my creative space.
It's been a great day - I fell asleep really late watching 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' whilst waiting for my bf to come home from work last night - woke up early and decided to venture out and not spend the entire day inside breathing in clay oven and superglue fumes. Took a bus over to Lyall Bay (close to where my bf works at Weta) and met him for lunch by the sea in a brilliant little cafe called Maranui which is a Maori word meaning 'long sands'. (I love Maori culture!)
It's September 5th of course, but it is technically spring here so it's more like March 5th. Great day, if a tad windy.
When I got home I finished off these unicorn horns because I've actually been out of stock since Sept last year if you can believe it?! These are a refined design and I am putting some in my own handmade fairy baskets which I finally finished making last week.... they'll all be available at my online Pixie Dust Miniature shop verrrrrry soon. One inch scale, but I'll make some in half inch as well if people want it. ;)

My Workspace - not that easy being Green
But my workspace is certainly looking pretty green since it's been all about green pumpkins and gourds as I ramp up into production for Halloween 2012 and the all new spooky range.
Have a glimpse into my own private workspace. You can see me sculpting the original pale green shapes before finishing them with all manner of mixed media. The photos show new Fairytale Green pumpkins (written about in a previous post here) and new green pumpkins and gourds (coming soon). And I've included a picture of one of my all-time hero's creations - Kermit the Frog as he sings 'It's not that Easy Being Green' since this song went round and round in my head as I worked!

A. Yes, I do. I check throughout the duration of the competition to see who has become a follower / fan / promoted on their sites etc so that I can keep it fair and make sure everyone has their name entered the correct number of times.
Q. Is my friend who I recommended Pixie Dust Miniatures to entered in the draw?
A. No, your friend is not entered into the draw unless they also follow the rules to enter the competition themselves.
Q. How exactly do you choose a winner?
A. I print off everyone's names (some names are printed off multiple times if they've earned the right to be entered multiple times) and I simply throw them all in a bowl or hat and draw out 1 name at random. I film the competition draw and upload it to my YouTube Channel within about 2 days of the competition's end.
GOOD LUCK everybody and please feel free to email me if you have any questions at all about this competition draw.
