NEW Warty Cane Toads

Yesterday I wrote a bit about making my new toads, and today they're available for sale at my Pixie Dust Miniatures Etsy shop.

Originally inspired by the singing warty cane toads in 'Harry Potter'!

Handmade by myself; they come in green or brown and have cute little faces, warty textures and are approx 1.5 cm (5/8") in length.
So, find your toads here....!

I've had several emails lately requesting custom miniatures / jewelry but, although I hate to disappoint people, I am afraid I do have to turn many down for the time being due to my busy schedule working on my short film (details here). Thank you for your understanding in this. :)

NOTE: I made a mistake in saying the toad coupon for 50% off was still valid. I just realised that this particular coupon has expired, so my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. All toads ordered up until now have had the discount honoured and been given a partial PayPal refund.

Sorting through my Hats!

Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin... which Hogwart house will you be sorted into? Find out by purchasing a Sorting Hat from me, handmade in one inch scale.

I don't usually make 'Harry Potter' themed miniatures, preferring to make miniatures based on my own characters, such as 'Myrtle the Witch', but I started making a limited run of these for a fantasy fair here in LA and they've been so popular!

I'm making a couple more for my Pixie Dust Miniatures Etsy shop so if you're a Harry Potter fan then how about a perfectly tiny little Sorting Hat in miniature?!

Making Fairytale Jewelry

I usually only exhibit at miniature shows for serious miniature collectors, but this weekend just gone I was pursuaded to participate in a fantasy fair in Hollywood. It was great fun and I met some cool people. I took some of my fairytale jewellery (or jewelry in US English). There were tiny glass jars of Floo Powder as pendants, magical toadstool earrings in numerous colours, and jack o lantern pendants as well as the Leprechaun shoe range. They sold well and I'll list the leftovers at my Pixie Dust Miniatures online store.

I also made Sorting Hats just for this fair. I sold a few but there are 3 left over so will either list them online or feel free to email me to order one direct. (I'm offering a 5% discount on these hats to those who order directly from me and pay via PayPal instead of going through Etsy).

Will share photos of the fair tomorrow. :)

Harry Potter Mania... and a Sorting Hat!

Can you believe the final installment of
is creeping up... the 15th July is less than a month away!

I was asked to participate in an event for die hard Potter fans at the Cinemark at University Mall in Orem, Utah for the midnight premier of Harry Potter 7 'Deathly Hallows Part 2'. They have a magic and wizardy night of events planned including goodie bag giveaways and I made a Sorting Hat in 1:12 (one inch) scale for the occasion! It will go to one of those serious Harry Potter fans, and I'm sure it couldn't go to a more enthusiastic person!

Potting Mandrake Seedlings

We avid fantasy fans all remember the scene in 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' (2002) when the pupils of Hogwarts had to re-pot mandrake... but if you're not familiar with this 'magical' plant, here's a snippet from the Harry Potter wiki:

"A Mandrake, also known as Mandragora, is a plant which has a root that looks like a human (like a baby when the plant is young, but maturing as the plant grows)...Whenever unearthed, the root screams."

Even Shakespeare referenced the mythological cries:

"Shrieks like mandrakes' torn out of the earth."
(Romeo and Juliet)

Fun stuff. But don't forget, neither Shakespeare nor Rowling invented mandrake for their prose. It does in fact exist and can indeed resemble a human form.

And now onto my interpretation of the famous plant! I've spent the day in the potting shed with these little seedlings, and here are a few snaps. 1:12 (one inch) scale and entirely handmade by myself without the use of molds, and out of polymer clay. Available at my online store shortly.

And to give you an idea of scale, here they are on my iPhone! ;)

A Magic Shop in Progress - My Workspace 2

Hi everyone,
It's late and I've been so busy in my workshop that my floors now resemble a hamster cage, but the lovely lady I've been making the Harry Potter Magic Shop - 'Boggarts Bazaar' for has given me permission to post images of my work-in-progress on my blog, so I thought I'd quickly do that now!
Stay tuned for finished results...
(Ooh, and note the real hardwood floors!) All 1:24 (half inch) scale.

Hi everyone,
You haven't heard that much from me as I've been a busy bee working on commissions for private marvelous collectors! I know people often like to see un-posed photos of my workspace so I took a few snaps to share with you.

I'll be showing you all sorts of new products soon as well.

This project is a Harry Potter magical shop made in 1:24 (half inch) scale.
